The students will gain expanded knowledge of substance use disorders to include: harm reduction, stigma, opioid epidemic, health equity, pharmacological components of treatment, effects of substance use and more. The students will have the opportunity to participate in an internship at Strong Recovery which provides the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills learned from this course to practice. The course is designed to meet section 1 requirements for credentialed addiction counselors (CASAC) as established by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS).
