Biography
Luna (Tong) Yang’s academic and professional journey spans the U.S., U.K., and China, bringing a global and interdisciplinary perspective to counselor education. Her research focuses on the experiences of international students in counselor education programs, mental health concerns, particularly transnational bereavement, among international students, cultural humility in teaching and supervision, the applications and affordances of AI in counseling and counselor education, and gender and sexuality diversity.
In addition to her research, Yang is deeply committed to preparing students through culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate, and trauma-informed pedagogy. She teaches both foundational and advanced courses in counseling and human development and provides academic advising and clinical supervision to master’s and doctoral students. She has presented her ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ at national and regional conferences, including ACA, ACES, and ACCA, and regularly collaborates on interdisciplinary research initiatives.
A Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), Yang has completed clinical training at the University Counseling Center (UCC) at the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ as well as in multiple community agencies. Her work with international students, immigrants, and refugees has strengthened her commitment to advocacy for underrepresented populations and to advancing social justice in counseling and education. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), the American College Counseling Association (ACCA), and the Association of Chinese Helping Professionals and Psychologists–International (ACHPPI).
